“Roar,” an eight-episode dark comedy anthology on Apple TV+, gets its first trailer showcasing the twisted realities that ordinary women must fight through.
Nicole Kidman chomping on the material of a photo album, Betty Gilpin sat ornamentally on a lounging shelf in an elaborate wedding dress, and Meera Syal trying to come back to her husband at her local grocery store, you’d probably say “Woo!” Meera Syal, congratulations!” and “Hold up! You’ve got to tell me what you’ve been smoking.” We’ve just seen the first trailer for the upcoming anthology series Roar on Apple TV+, the latest from the creators of the soon-to-be-canceled Netflix series GLOW.
Roar, a dark comedy series based on Cecilia Ahern’s short-story collection of the same name, tells the stories of eight women, each dealing with extraordinary challenges.
Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, the creative duo behind the Netflix series “GLOW,” signed a multi-year deal with Apple in early 2017 to develop new television projects. They’re launching AppleTV+ with what? Starring some of the most talented women in the entertainment industry, this anthology series features darkly comic feminism fables.
It is based on Cecelia Ahern’s short story collection, “Roar,” which spans eight half-hour episodes and examines how women deal with others and their perceptions of their femininity. AppleTV+’s new original series, “Womanhood,” promises to be a “whimsical, genre-bending take on female identity.”
Where can I watch
First look at “Roar,” Apple’s highly anticipated female-driven anthology series, which premieres globally on Friday, April 15, 2022, has been released. An all-star cast including Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever, SAG Award winner Issa Rae and SAG Award nominee Issa Rae star in the first series released under Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive’s (GLOW) overall deal with Apple TV+. The series is based on a book of short stories written by Cecelia Ahern, who also executive produces. As a portrayal of what it means to be a woman in today’s society, “Roar” is both thought-provoking and funny at times. Magical realist elements mingle with everyday domestic and professional life, while futuristic settings provide a fresh perspective on a familiar problem. It is amazing to see how resilient they are as individuals and as a group when they come out on the other side of their struggles.
Have second thoughts?
That this show is about feminist fairy tales appears to be both bizarre and intriguing is a mystery to me. This has awakened my interest, to say less. Roar will be available on Apple TV+ on April 15th, and you can watch the trailer for it below.
The rest of the cast and crew of the show are here for you to meet.
Stars such as Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever, and Meera Syal have prominent roles in the series, along with Kara Hayward, Daniel Dae Kim, and Alfred Molina.
With a premiere date of April 15, Roar has executive producers Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, and Allie Goss on board.
Endeavor Content produces the show for Apple.
It’s time to take a look at the rest of the ensemble. Alison Brie and Cynthia Erivo are the latest celebrities to join Nicole Kidman at the head of the pack. Also appearing in the film are Issa Rae, Betty Gilpin, Meera Syal, Fivel Stewart, and Kara Hayward, among others.
Currently, there is no word on when “Roar” will be released, but it is expected to be available on Apple TV+ sometime in the spring or early summer.
